Horseheads city centre is a practical starting point for town and village services, local transport information and parks. Because Horseheads has separate Town and Village websites, checking the right one can help you plan a centre stop and nearby outings.

  • Municipal information: The Town and Village publish separate updates and resources.
  • Local transport: C TRAN runs fixed-route and demand-response bus services in Horseheads and nearby communities.
  • Parking: Village rules cover several municipal lots, with time limits and overnight restrictions in some areas.
  • Parks: The Village Parks and Recreation Department includes facilities such as Linear Park and Sullivan Park.

Horseheads has separate Town and Village governments, and their websites cover different local services and information. The Village Hall and Parks and Recreation Department are both at 202 South Main Street, Horseheads, NY 14845; Town Hall is at 150 Wygant Road, Horseheads, NY 14845.

For Village matters, the website has news, a calendar, meeting information, online payments, budget information and water-quality information. The Town website links to community events and news, Town Hall directions, parks and facilities, and agendas and minutes. Use the site that matches the place or service you’re checking.

The Village Parks and Recreation Department includes Linear Park, Maple Grove Fields, Memorial Park, Mill Street Park, Mill Street Pond and Sullivan Park, also known as Thorne Street Park. Eldridge Park in Horseheads is another local outing. The department’s website directs you to a separate parks and recreation site for facility reservations, program registration and event information.

The Village identifies municipal parking lots at Franklin Street, George Sullivan Park, Grand Central Avenue, John Street, South Main Street, Village Hall and Fire Department North.

Parking rules vary by lot. The Village code limits parking to two hours per day during any 20-hour period in all of the South Main Street lot except its two most southerly rows, all of the Franklin Street lot, and all of the Grand Central Avenue lot except 18 spaces at its south end nearest Broad Street.

The code also prohibits parking between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays in specified portions of the South Main Street lot and in the Franklin Street, Grand Central Avenue, George Sullivan Park and Fire Department North lots.

In the municipal lots covered by these rules, park wholly within a marked space and only in a designated parking area; posted signs may add restrictions.

For bus travel, Chemung County identifies C TRAN as the operator of fixed-route and demand-response services serving Horseheads and nearby communities. Its routes include the Mall Express, Elmira-Owego, Elmira-Corning, Elmira/Airport Corporate Park and Elmira-Ithaca routes.

What to check before you visit

What to check before you visit

Check the relevant municipal and transit sources before setting out, especially if your plans depend on parking rules or a bus timetable.

C TRAN’s Route 30 Elmira–Ithaca timetable includes weekday stops at Grand Central Plaza and Tate’s/Rte 13 Horseheads Park & Ride. It shows departures from the Horseheads Park & Ride at 6:30 a.m. toward Ithaca and 5:25 p.m. toward Elmira.

That timetable gives a $6.00 cash or pay-as-you-go fare for Cornell–Horseheads and a $75.00 fare for a 31-day pass in that zone.

It says per-trip tokens and reduced cash fares are not offered on Route 30 or any commuter route. Timetables and fares can change, so check the official site before you go: use C TRAN’s official site for current transit details.

The Village Parks and Recreation Department is at 202 South Main Street, Horseheads, NY 14845, and its phone number is 607-739-5691, extension 1. Its parks and recreation website handles facility reservations, program registration and event information.

You can pair errands or a town-centre stop with a visit to a local park. Sullivan Park is among the Village parks, and Budget Inn Horseheads is about an 8-minute drive from Eldridge Park.
